Email “phishing” is a standard scam for internet crooks

The internet scam is one of the simplest and most successful means of scamming consumers there is. Who doesn’t love to promise of a huge windfall; sometimes as much as $5 million? To most, these are obviously scams. But to many, and often times the elderly, these “get rich quick” scams seem to be ways to leave a legacy to their families. All they receive in return is a future filled with red tape, police reports, and irreparable damage to their credit and their good name.

Mashable.com has taken a recent scam of this sort, and broken it down to show consumers and business owners alike how to spot these “phishing” expeditions, and how to avoid being taken in by them.
