Jon Lord, keyboardist for seminal rock band Deep Purple has lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 71.
A classically trained pianist from an early age, became a fan of the organ in his teens. The virtuoso is responsible for some of the bands most popular hits including the legendary “Smoke on the Water” which Lord co-wrote with his band mates Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, and Ian Paice. Never forgetting his classical roots, Lord was pivotal in recording on of the bands early successes, “Concerto for Group and Orchestra” in 1969.
